ALBESOM-40 contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that effectively reduces the production of stomach acid. It is commonly prescribed for conditions associated with excessive acid secretion, including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, and erosive esophagitis.In Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a rare condition characterized by tumors (gastrinomas) in the pancreas or duodenum, the body produces abnormally high levels of stomach acid, leading to multiple, recurrent ulcers. This results in symptoms such as abdominal pain, persistent heartburn, acid reflux, and diarrhea.
Esomeprazole in ALBESOM-40 works by blocking the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in the gastric parietal cells, thereby significantly reducing gastric acid secretion. This helps alleviate symptoms like pain and heartburn, promotes the healing of ulcers, and prevents complications such as gastrointestinal bleeding, perforation, or stricture formation.
ALBESOM-40 is usually taken once daily before meals, or as prescribed by a physician. While well tolerated, long-term use may lead to side effects such as headache, nausea, vitamin B12 deficiency, or decreased calcium and magnesium levels. Regular monitoring is advised in patients on prolonged therapy. It is important to follow the treatment regimen exactly as prescribed for optimal benefit.
